Been reading 'bout philosophy again, b'c that's where I go at times. Good take on the importance of curiosity and the value in paying attention to what's gone wrong as well as what's known/currently considered right: "To take an interest in [a] false belief is not to reject the truth, but only to wish to fill out our picture of the truth with as much detail as possible, and not because of some aesthetic inclination to the baroque, but rather because false theories are an important part of the puzzle that we as philosophers should be trying to complete: that of determining the range of ways people conceptualize the world around them."

Balanced with a day spent delving into thoughts, theories, and thinking, I took off early yesterday evening for a good walk over to Blue Monk because 'twas Pagan Tuesday (the weekly FREE Pagan Jug Band show from 6:30-8:30+pm). On my way, a guy ran across the street with an excited "oh, hey," then proceeded to offer me a piece of nearly-black glass so I could see the Transit of Venus. (I do so lurv Portland, where folks're happy to share their joy and whatever w/you!) Eventually I made it to the venue, snagged a table, txt'd my spot, then read for a few minutes 'til [livejournal.com profile] jaylakejoined me for dinner, conversation, and great music. He only managed to enjoy the first set, as he had a friend who needed help w/medical stuff so he returned to such.

I happily continued listening to the music, and then realized that [livejournal.com profile] ferociousbcycad had made it to the show as well. Apparently he'd arrived during the set break and not seen me tucked into a corner table (where quiet(ish) talking was possible). We ended up at the bar, talking and listening to the music, then continuing to catch up long past the music ended. 'Twas around Midnight when we finally left and he kindly consented to drive me home. (I could've walked/bused, but this was nicer.)

It's reached the point where I run into friends at events 'n' happenings in town. I've got various people I'm getting to know better who live here. I'm starting to take part in more regular social things locally. THIS is what I've been wanting to do for a while now, and now that I've crawled out from under the rock o' sadness, it's SO nice to realize that I'm heading into the life I've been wanting: meeting good people here, having enjoyable and worthwhile local connections, making friends, and very much enjoying spending time here in Portland.

Sure, I've still got friends in SoCal, in WA, and in the Bay Area (among other places ;-), but I'm not zooming quite so much to see 'em these days since I've got local r-ships which matter to me, too. It's a matter of where and how to invest one's life energy. (Love's infinite; time/energy's not ;-)

Meanwhile, I'm also working on managing my new "wedge" interest/minor-obsession/potentially developing crush so that it serves to further break-off/away my leftover feelings/desires re: ex yet not lose myself in the process. Falling, but not (too) hard. Enjoying the process & the rush, but with my eyes wide open. Don't wanna go splat. *mini-bounce*

EDIT: Going splat's not gonna happen. Have pretty much snapped outta it, although the wedging has occurred, so the heart's not hurting nearly so much. Good Stuff, This.

I'm glad to see that things are shaping up well for you, by the world and through the pattings and smoothings by your own hands.
