Five (5) years ago today I arrived in Portland w/the final load of stuff and the kittenheads Fargo & Havana (now departed). Tomorrow's when I'd planned to celebrate my Hive-aversary, as 3/21 marks the first full day of living here in the PacNW, but I've got a smile on today as well.

THIS is Home. I am pleased. I've met lotsa great people, and hope to meet s'more, as well as get to know more locals better. The Hive's a fine place to live. Eventually I'll buy my own place, but not right now. (Mebbe tomorrow ;-)

This's also the 2nd longest I've lived in any one place. The Santa Monica apartment right before moving here was my longest by far, at over 11 years, from 12/95-03/07. Heck, I lived somewhere different in 08/95, 09/95, 10/95, 11/95, and 12/95, so thank goodness for some living stability finally!

08/95 (WLA where I'd lived for 4 yrs w/hubby - I moved out when our marriage ended),
09/95 (w/friends in Sta Monica - right after I moved in they learned they had to move out),
10/95 (in a tiny, funky attic room in Venice house where housemates stole my towels from the bathroom and my food from the kitchen),
11/95 (w/other friends in Sta Monica), and
12/95 (great apartment just 13 blocks from beach), where I stayed 'til 03/07 when I moved to PDX/the Hive.

Luckily my two recent places've been long-term (5 years here, 11+ years at final place in Sta Monica). Phew!

Wow, I'd love to have that kind of long-term stability in a place I loved. I'm definitely liking Seattle far, far better than anywhere else I've lived so far, but I've also only been here for a little over a year, and moved 3 times and had surgery in my first year here, so it didn't exactly feel stable. And the longest I've lived anywhere here has been next to a construction zone, so it still feels unstable, because how the construction affects our space changes every few weeks. :( But some day, I would love to experience that kind of stability where you get to stay somewhere you like long-term.
