Decision-Making Energy & Habits
May. 17th, 2010 09:57 amIt's only recently dawned on me how much energy decision-making can take, as I've gone through an energy-drought and what usually seems so simple becomes far less so. The daily B-vitamins seems to be helping, thank goodness. Still, this thought has never before occurred to me, so I'm exploring it s'more (as is my wont ;-)
I'm thinking that establishing habits and/or routines can help reduce the energy required b'c decisions're pretty much pre-made. I also use list-making as a way to avoid having to make decisions later on/closer to events/when more exhausted and/or less easily able to make decisions.
It seems important in all this to recognize the times/situations where one's likely to have reduced energy: after a long day of work, after a long trip, after (and while) being sick, &c. This way one can (ideally) plan ahead of time and have lists and/or habits in place to reduce the stress of decision-making.
Hmm, mebbe comfort foods fits into this category of habits to fall back on when sick. Rather than think too hard about what you want to eat, you just know you want Chicken Noodle Soup or whatever 'tis you're used to when you're sick that helps you feel better.
There's more whirling around in my head - something 'bout assuming responsibility (or not) by making the decision and/or setting a plan in motion - but I've got things to do and places to go and people to see...and b-fast to consume.
