As a child we left a lunch box in the oven to dry via the pilot light after a particularly nasty incident and its subsequent bath. Forgotten, it was still there when we went to preheat for dinner - the plastic handle and closure catch didn't last long...

Heh. :-) Luckily I smelled something nice 'n' savory whilst tossing together the almond butter cake ingrediments so removed the pan before things got interesting. (I think I'll look around and note the locations of all smoke alarms for future reference and ease of mind though.)

I've learned this lesson dozens of times.

The batches of drying habenaro peppers were particularly bad. The smoke was very similar to tear gas.
