That's right, it's time once again for Santa Monica's FREE 7:30pm Thursday night concerts at the pier, the Twilight Dance Series. 2005 kicks off on June 30 when EASY STAR ALL-STARS PRESENTS DUB SIDE OF THE MOON WITH DETOUR POSSE: Reggae for all! One of the most innovative and creative teams in modern reggae, Michael Goldwasser (a.k.a. Michael G) and Victor Axelrod (a.k.a. Ticklah) present a complete Reggae version of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon that captures all of the resonant nuances of the original. Sounds fascinating!

LITTLE JOE Y LA FAMILIA
WITH CANNIBAL AND THE HEADHUNTERS
Little Joe & La Familia has been one of the most popular Tex-Mex bands in the music industry. Little Joe has been entertaining for more than 40 years and has also helped pioneer "Tejano" music, a mix of traditional "norteno" music and country, blues and rock styles.
 
Opening the show is a legendary band in the history of chicano rock. Best known for the smash hit "Land of a Thousand Dances", Cannibal and the Headhunters celebrates their 40th anniversary this year.

PUTUMAYO PRESENTS MALI:
TINARIWEN & RAMATOU DIAKITE
Tinariwen is a Touareg group from the southern Sahara whose music is close to the blues of Ali Farka Toure. The songs of Tinariwen mourn the passing of the epic golden age of the Saharan tribes, while endeavoring to map out a future for the generations who must survive beyond it and live with the modern world. Ramatou Diakite’s beautiful, soaring voice is punctuated by her rhythmic phrasing and unique vibrato. She grew up in one of Africa's richest musical environments, the Wassoulou region of southern Mali. Renowned for its ancient spiritual traditions, magic, and hunters' lore, Wassoulou has also produced the bluesiest, funkiest traditional pop music in modern Mali.

CHICAGO BLUES REUNION
Starring Barry Goldberg, Harvey Mandel, Nick Gravenites, Tracy Nelson, Sam Lay, Corky Siegel and others!
CHICAGO BLUES REUNION is a collaboration of Chicago music legends who defined the sound of their generation in the 1960’s. These players helped create the historic transition in popular music from acoustic folk to electric blues-influenced rock. A revolution in rock and a cultural legacy showcased live! The band is a who’s who of blues lovers’ household names: Barry Goldberg, Nick "The Greek" Gravenites, Harvey "The Snake" Mandel, Tracy Nelson, Sam Lay, Corky Siegel, with backing by band of top flight pros including Gary Mallaber, Rick Reed and Zach Wagner.

SUZANNE VEGA AND MARC COHN
One of music’s most distinctive female singer/songwriters, Grammy-nominated Suzanne Vega ushered in a female, acoustic, folk-pop singer-songwriter movement that would include the likes of Tracy Chapman, Shawn Colvin, and Indigo Girls as well as the Lilith Fair phenomenon. A somewhat elusive and Infrequent performer, Marc Cohn will close the evening with a reprise of his catalogue of hits including the multi-platinum "Walking in Memphis" and possibly throwing in songs from his upcoming fourth album, due in the fall of 2005.

Every one of us has at least one memory linked to a Neil Diamond song. For a decade, frontman "Surreal Neil" and Super Diamond has sought to spread the word with their own interpretation of his material in an amazing dynamic - and realistic - live show.

Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC)
PLASTILINA MOSH AND NORTEC COLLECTIVE
The latest and greatest in Latin Alternative music graces the Twilight Dance Series stage for the third amazing year, this time featuring funky Plastilina Mosh and Nortec Collective, a fusion of Northern Mexican styles and percussive techno.
 
August 18
GORDON GOODWIN BIG PHAT BAND
A 70th anniversary celebration of the concert that started the Big Band "craze," - the Benny Goodman Orchestra, 21 August 1935, Palomar Ballroom, Los Angeles - and a tribute to Artie Shaw with the astonishing Eddie Daniels sitting in the Goodman/Shaw chair.

BUCKWHEAT ZYDECO
Putumayo & Basin Street present
NEW ORLEANS: Kermit Ruffins' Barbeque Swingers & Topsy Chapman
In New Orleans, music isn’t just legendary - it’s an ever-evolving art form. Jazz trumpeter/vocalist Kermit Ruffins and his quintet, the Barbecue Swingers, mixes the city’s vibrant brass-band jazz with bebop and hip-hop for a sound that’s a little black tie, a little Bermuda shorts. Special Guest Topsy Chapman, from the off-Broadway hit One Mo’ Time, is a featured vocalist.

SHONEN KNIFE AND THE KNACK
The Japanese trio Shonen Knife has gained major fans among alternative-rock's elite (Sonic Youth, Nirvana, and Redd Kross, among others) and built a solid, worldwide cult following with their Ramones meets the Beatles brand of sticky sweet punk-pop. The Knack's debut album sold an astounding eleven million copies and spun off the hits "My Sharona" and "Good Girls Don't." With their Beatle-esque appearances, new-wave punk sound and attitude to spare, The Knack took the rock/pop world by storm and their catchy tunes are at home in any era.
