"While My Ukulele Gently Weeps"
Feb. 6th, 2008 10:23 pmToday featured many things Hawaiian. A care package from my 'rents arrived in the mail this afternoon. They spent several weeks in Hawaii over the Winter break. Now I'm all set to enjoy Kava, dark choco dipped shortbread from Big Island Candy Co, Clusters (caramel & macadamia nuts drenched w/choco), and a new tropical-print shirt. Then this evening I thoroughly enjoyed the concert by native Hawaiian uke-master Jake Shimabukuro who kicked serious uke-butt! It's amazing what marvelous sound he can make w/just four (4) strings and two (2) hands. The songs he played ranged from trad'l uke tunes to original songs to an arrangement of a trad'l Japanese folk tune to Led Zeppelin to Cyndi Lauper to Chick Corea to Franz Shubert to the Beatles...and more.
It's been several years since I took my last (and first and so far only) trip to the islands...mebbe I should look into this as a possibility for the next few years travel plans.
Meanwhile, I'm THRILLED that I'm following through on my goal of more live music and more theater this year. Check out the new improved listing of upcoming stuff (so far - I'm sure the list'll expand as time goes by).
