Last night, as L and I sat down to damn fine wine (thx [livejournal.com profile] 1annie1) and decent pizza, I turned on the worst movie I'd ever seen, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Apparently I'd forgotten just how horrible it really was. Not surprising since I last saw it in the theater when it came out, nearly 30 years ago. After the initial sick fascination (George Burns singing and playing guitar for Beatles' covers, the Bee-Gees plus Peter Frampton AS the fab four), I fast-forwarded it to experience snibblets of the horror (and to get to Aerosmith's version of Come Together, which I do like, even if'n I cannot sit all the way through watching 'em do it). Sometimes something is so bad it passes through being good and runs through the wall into being SO BAD once again.

Thank goodness for [livejournal.com profile] yourmuse, who'd just the other evening turned me onto some twisted yet quite enjoyable covers of Beatles in the style of Metallica. Yes, it's Beatallica. CAUTION: SOUND = A TAD LOUD. So when you click here, you'll possibly want the sound off if'n you're at work, but do crank it when you can listen to what you choose.

I've never seen it, however, it doesn't sound very appealing.

I'm generally a fan of bad movies, but this one hurts too much. And, as you know, I'm generally a fan of cover music, but although some of this works (Aerosmith's version of Come Together, as noted), most of it is too painful to listen to, even as a joke.

My first thought when I saw the trailer for Across the Universe was, "It's GOT to be better than Sgt Pepper!" But that remains to be discovered. The visuals make it look as edgy as moulin rouge, so I plan to give it a chance.

It's hard to imagine even an MS3K treatment making this one watchable... maybe if you replaced it with an alternate soundtrack, like wizard of oz/dark side of the moon.

I haven't seen any trailers and only just heard about this the other day. Matinee pricing is req'd, as far as I'm concerned...but I'll give it a go...WITHOUT saying "how bad can it be." ;-)

It's sooo bad, but I LOVE it! Maybe its just because I watched it repeatedly as a child, and its the whole nostalgia thing that gets to me, I dunno. I own it on VHS. tee hee. Guilty pleasures

Familiarity can be soothing. Glad you can enjoy it. If you put it on when I'm over, however, I may have to eat the VHS tape. ;-)
