Today I attacked the shelves in the hall. Managed to pack another 10 boxes, fill a big plastic tub w/linens and t-shirts I rarely wear yet don't wanna part with, create one paper bag o' Goodwill clothes and another of clothing-exchange worthy clothing, and managed put most of the CDs into their cases and return 'em to alpha order in the CD containment system, a chore I've been dreading but really wasn't all that bad.

I'm so NOT the tortoise. Slow 'n' steady may win the race, but I don't really like racing. Doing this is like pulling teeth: slow agony punctuated by sudden bursts of accomplishment. I'm gonna claim that my breaks to read, drink tea, eat food, check e-mail/LJ/IM, pet the kittenheads, whatEVER are necessary to maintain health & sanity...and I might even be right. Many thx, as always, to [livejournal.com profile] delerium3, who's massively dependable and helpful and keeps me sane (and giggling), as well as to those others who noticed my cry. I don't know why this is so difficult - and I'm working hard on not bashing myself for it being so hard and taking so bleeding long and taking so much outta me.

O'morrow I MUST accomplish much. Ditto Th & Fri. 'Cause Sat's fully booked, ditto Sun (after some recovery-time in the a.m.), and next Tu - Th I'll get NOTHING (packing/moving-wise) accomplished. Okay, I guess I DO have time to do it all.

Because it *IS* difficult. Packing to move SUCKS. It is one of the most tedious, agonizing projects on the planet. It is decision after decision after decision. Pack it now or later? With this item or that? In Box A or Box B? Decision making like that, after a while, is mind numbing. It's emotionally and mentally exhausting.

Like you, I start with books because they're fast, easy, and build tall, pride-building piles of "done". Kitchens? Craft stuff? Oy. Horrific! Nothing seems to ever fit in a box conveniently or compactly. And bedroom closets? We never remember how many oddball things we've got on shelves and floors in closets. And always underestimate how many boxes it'll take to contain them.

Thank God dressers/desks can be transferred with drawer contents still inside...

Thx, it helps to be reminded that it's not just me, but the process/chore itself.

Hon, you are working miracles.. BOTH of the last two times we moved.. we started preparing 3 months in advance. And after this last time.. the boys both told me that they weren't moving again unless professional movers came and did it all....

Holding the current record of SEVEN moves in the last 4 years, I can personally say MOVING SUCKS!!! Yes, finding a new place ROCKS, but getting there is what sucks. Once you're there, then the fun begins as you decorate your home into a new look. Stay positive, remind yourself of all the positive things you're moving into, and let that motivate and inspire you. It has to be done so turn that fear and panic into strength! Portland ROCKS!

Thursday night help?
