"Gelding the Lily"
Aug. 23rd, 2006 07:00 pmStaring out the window at Haven's Neck, a gorgeous rocky outpost peninsula'ing into the Pacific. So, as we were cleaning out the cupboards and boxing all the foodstuffs & beverages & comestibles & imbibables and other suchlike, I happened upon a bottle of Angostora Bitters and decided to read it, whereupon I for some reason just HAD to try to make old fashioneds...gee it's a mighty fine day here in Mendocino County w/the Pacific all blue and frothy and the greenergy on full-bore. Later on we'll return to Mendocino town itself for the night. On the to-do list: spend even more time sampling the good wine I grabbed when I wandered through the local wine country yesterday (remember that delightful bottle we had at Compass & Moon in Noyo Harbor, Ft Bragg,
anansi133? - yum!) whilst sitting in the hot tub on the deck in my private garden, looking up at the tall fruit (apple?) tree, sniffing the scent from the huge bush of star jasmine right there, enjoying the fog and the night air and the good food. Not sure whether I'll take the same route back (part-way, only to Carmel Highlands o'morrow), although 'twas damned lovely: after the Golden Gate bridge wreathed in fog, there were lots of rolling golden hills dotted w/oaks fading to vineyards giving way to majestic redwoods w/clover & ferns underneath finally ending up at the coast w/sheep and cows and even some goats grazing. Life is officially good and I'm officially happy. Even though I'm on dial-up...
