So, much of this week(plus, if honest) has been an exercise in severe procrastination. At least along the way I've been making lists of things To Do, so now that the Time Has Come, I've managed to get much of what's needed DONE, and the rest (for o'morrow AM) is on a list so I needn't think, but can Just Do It. Will meet w/my tax folks at 10am o'morrow, make it clear that whatever I need to sign to make it so NOW (extension request at a minimum) I must sign by Noon tomorrow, shortly after which time I hope to be Out Of Here.
The reasons for this particular travel configuration remain murky, but also don't much matter at this point. Suffice it to say that Planes & Trains & Automobiles (and various combos thereof, such as this magnificence: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIEpKZLH1GY) will make up my days over the next couple/few weeks. I've also realized that the Trip is the Thing. What I'll do along the way'll be great - reconnecting with people and places that matter muchly to me - but so will be the whole "along the way" process, too.
The wonky, wacky weather forecast has shifted my initial travel plans. Rather than taking Hwy 5 starting this Friday, I'll leave tomorrow (Th, 04/14) and Go Coastal. Current itinerary: Th, 04/14 PDX-Coos Bay, OR. Fri, 04/15 Coos Bay - Eureka (Oasis). Sat, 04/16 Eureka to Berkeley, CA via at least some redwoods. Sun, 04/17 Berkeley to Carmel Highlands. Mon, 04/18 Carmel Highlands to Santa Barbara via Hwy 1 through Big Sur (OH YEAH). Tu, 04/19 SB to Lompoc to The Land w Liz(near New Cuyama, CA - mid-desert/hoping for good wildflowers). Wed, 04/20 - at The Land w/Liz. Th, 04/21 The Land to Lompoc w/Liz. Fri, 04/22 Lompoc to Playa del Rey (hopefully seeing at least some folks in SoCal during the day) with bonus Killer Shrimp dinner and (ideally) sunset over the Pacific Ocean. Sat, 04/23 Union Station (Los Angeles) - Sun, 04/24 Union Station (PDX). Sun, 04/14 - Wed, 04/27: Home Again in SE PDX. Wed, 04/27 fly PDX - LAX. Th, 04/28 visit various SoCal peeps. Fri, 04/29 drive SoCal to somewhere Northward. Sat, 04/30 unclear - mebbe visit w/'rents in San Jose, CA. Sun, 05/01 drive to somewhere Northward via Sacramento Wildlife Refuge. Mon, 05/02 drive the rest of the way home to SE PDX. Tu, 05/03 see Banksyland exhibit https://banksyland.com/!
Oh, to be thinking about traveling again! Oh, to be about to be GONE for a while! It's been a while... Last May I spent 10 days on a solo Toad Rip for the first time in over 2 years (danged worldwide pandemic). Hadn't realized how ready I was to do this again; now'm excited at the prospect. Trying to keep things reasonable, driving 5 or fewer hours/day, which'll help me maintain positive feelings and not exhaust me terribly. Wish me luck!
