So, I realized recently that my FREE Best Western voucher expired 06/23/19. ZipZoom, I snagged a reservation for 06/23 at the BW in Seaside, OR. Usually I stay on the South end of town, at Lanai at the Cove, but did I mention this was a FREE night?!

Killed two birds w/one stone by stopping off at Astoria Sunday Market and the Museum of Whimsy (okay, 3 birds ;-) on the way to Seaside. Grand fun! Serious whimsy, and some good arts 'n' crafts and berries andandand Spent an hourplus reading at Coffee Girls, the coffeeshop located in the same exact spot as the coffee counter for the cannery employees at Pier 39. Neat old run-down museum has exhibits and boats and machinery (steampunk heaven, although now you don't have quite the free rein to wander around as you did a few years back).

Wandered Seaside. Found a fine bubble-man along the boardwalk. Spent time reading at a good locals bar (with surprisingly decent naturual light from old skylights). Remembered why I far prefer (a) staying on the Southside of town (away from the crowds), and (b) avoiding Seaside in the Summer (again with the crowds and kids and pit bulls andandand). Returned to the freebie room - with a surprising partial ocean view (from balcony and bed and table and chairs) as I figured FREE meant a view of the parking lot/convention center - but sadly didn't sleep as well as I'd've liked. No reason, just kept waking up every hour or so. It just meant I skipped water aerobics this AM in favor of sleeping in for another hour and a bit.

Today began w/hot tea and reading at Sleepy Monk, my fave coffeeshop in Cannon Beach. Then 'twas the lovely drive down to Manzanita for brunch w/a couple friends who happened to be staying there for a few days. Seems silly to drive to the coast to catch up with someone who lives 10 minutes away in SE PDX, but sometimes that's what happens. ;-P

I spent the rest of the afternoon walking through old & new growth forest in Oswald West State Park and then hanging out at Short Sands Beach. Lovely weather. Good picnic tables & benches. Fab view of beach and surfers and woods &c.

Stayed out long enough that there was no traffic on the pretty drive home. Just past solstice, so it's still light out...huzzah!

I would LOVE to post pics here, but I've not come up with an easy process for this yet. Dunno if'n I will. Getting pics onto FB and InstaGram's easy from my phone, so I do that. I may eventually post a link to my Flickr set of pics, but dunno if'n anyone here'll care. 'Tis annoying though, as it changes how I use LJ/DW.
