It's 110 degrees here in Redding, CA. Tomorrow's local predicted highs range from 112 to 117. They've closed Hwy 5 Southbound in/through the Sacramento area for a week starting in <2 hours. Our exact route to Las Vegas remains unclear. It'll depend on large part on what parts of CA are less on fire than others.
The Clown Motel, Tonopah, NV
Jul. 8th, 2008 07:32 pmCalifornia's burning, so we're heading to Nevada, where it's cooler. Tomorrow night should be interesting...
BE SCARED...WE ARE...
EDIT: Or not...route remains TBD.

Excessive Heat Warnings
Jul. 8th, 2008 10:10 pmTrying to figure out how best to approach Las Vegas. Temperatures in Death Valley're expected to approach 125 degrees tomorrow, so that's not the ideal route. There's always US-50 (The Loneliest Road). Dang. We may have to skip the Clown Motel in Tonopah, NV after all. Thinking we'll pick up some extra water before hitting the road tomorrow.
EDIT: Gonna take the easy way out, forgo tradition, and choose the road more traveled...and hope it makes all the difference. Current projected route: 44 - E (then 36 briefly) to Susanville, then blaze down 395 - S to Bishop, CA (most likely) for the night. Then on Thursday we'll scoot South and East (395 - S, 168 - E, 266 - E, 95 - S) to Las Vegas.
