Thoughts from Under the Drill (like Under the Knife, but w/less blood & more noise 'n' strong burning/scorching smells) - and w/bonus Nitrous-Oxide followed by lotsa Oxygen:

Mixing-metaphor Pavlovian-monkey that I am, I'll leave off for now and heed the washing machine's Siren bell/beep before continuing...

Okay, back now.

Sitting there in the comfie chair leaned way back, w/bright lights overhead and two people sticking things into my mouth (drill & super-high-speed saliva sucker/ejector - w/SS = layperson's aka my terminology and latter (SE) the official name, unless I got it wrong and it's extractor), I realized just how much power I was giving to the DDS over me, and along w/it, how much (lots 'n' lots) trust I was extending to him. (At various points his assistant was just gathering and passing him things and taking notes - and she didn't wield the high-speed pointy things - so I don't include her so much in these ramblings.) He seemed somewhat bemused to hear me mention this once I had less stuff in my mouth so could (and did) articulate that thought aloud.

Thankfully, his aftercare was decent. I very much appreciated the phone call later that evening, checking in w/me and letting me know I could call if there were any issues.

Hmm, I was going somewhere w/all this, but I've lost the thread now.

Well, one thing I did quite appreciate in this whole thing was retaining/having a mild bit o' control myself. They let me handle the placement and on/off switch for the regular SpitSucker, which I had to keep on the other side of my mouth, away from all the noisy, burning-scented goings-on. Still, it let me feel as if I had a hand in not drowning in saliva (my glands're over-active in these circs, which's good, they tell me), and this helped me maintain some level of not-freaking-out-too-much (asking for and getting NO2 helped as well).

Back for round 2 (filling on another tooth (#29) and perm crown (#4) placement) in two weeks. Keeping fingers x-d I won't need a root canal on #4 first, as that'd be less than ideal.

Meanwhile, I've got an exam (MPRE) coming up (week from Sat aka 04/06/13) so my priority now shifts to studying for it aka cramming stuff into my brain and hoping I can remember it and perform properly 'n' well when the time comes. Ah, hoop-jumping...BRING IT! ;-P
