Putting In the Hive Garden

It feels oh-so-good to have done this, 'specially as I did it all by myself this year. Took the car into the shop first thing yesterday morning, sat sipping hot tea and munching on toast w/PB 'n' bacon at Common Grounds next to Hawthorne Auto, and, without having made any plans for doing so ahead of time, ended up catching the bus downtown where I procured a tray of organic starts from the Farmer's Market:

'Twas a lovely day out. I bused back, changed clothes, and got down to it. After several hours - and a trip to Portland Nursery once I got my car back - the green-waste/city compost bin was over half full, my compost bin was far less full, the sidewalk in front of the Hive was clear of weeds/excess growth, and my garden was IN: Proof in Pudding aka Pics.
Adding to the pleasure 'n' enjoyment of the process, two sets of neighbors were out doing gardening themselves. J from across the street provided pointers. The kids from next door helped me w/my garden (helping spread out potting soil, shift weeds to green bin, plant carrot seeds, &c.) I do like my neighborhood, and my life.
Afterwards, I met up w/new(ish) friends J&T for cider, glorious cider at Bushwacker, where we chatted and sampled bagels and schmears courtesy of Learned Monkey Bagels, who're trying to raise money for a food cart (which I hope they do). Eventually, feeling a need for something more, we ended up having dinner at Wafu. Mmmm, ramen. I'd not been there in several months, so was glad to return and remember it's nearby for another visit.
Am staying more local than initially planned this weekend, b'c car needs more work (at the dealer) before I venture on another long drive.
