Never-Ending Cycle of Icon Glee Meme

I blame [livejournal.com profile] blot for this. ;-P

1. Reply to this post, & I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including this info) & talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

1. bunny clock - Many people don't really know what to make of this when they see it. The bunny's expression's fairly enigmatic, which please me very much. It's an art-clock about 18" high and a foot wide that I fell in love with and bought at an art show benefiting the AIDS Healthcare Foundation held at the OUT Gallery on La Brea in SoCal back in January 1992. My hubby was so freaked out by the face that he refused to have it in the bedroom. Ditto my live-in boyfriend post-divorce. I've had it in my bedroom every since I've lived alone, and I still love it, although years ago I took out the battery as I cannot stand loud ticking noises, 'specially in the bedroom. I tend to use it when I'm being/feeling enigmatic myself.

2. yoda shrine - Back when [livejournal.com profile] delerium3 lived w/me in Santa Monica, CA, we both had annual Disneyland passports and went all the time. One magical day she procured an awesome Yoda at (if memory serves) the same D-land store that later on carried another special friend, the Fruit Bat. (We never did figure out what Disney character it was supposed to be or whether 'twas a mis-shipment ment for the LA Zoo or what.) Clearly the only place for him to live was in a spot of honor, so he ended up on the not-an-alter, surrounded by bits and pieces of special rocks, vegetation, and other story-filled things from special/marvelous places/times.

3. w/st 1 - This icon of me & [livejournal.com profile] ebony_sphynx came from a wonderful visit we took to the Huntington Gardens several years back. She took me to a spot that [livejournal.com profile] executivegoth had shown her, a view from within the Japanese Gardens that looks out apparently over an exact replica of the view from another set of gardens in Japan (royal gardens in Kyoto?) and I held out the camera and snapped the picture of her menacing me. I'm pretty sure that was the day she declared she wanted to be a tree/Earth again sometime, which lead to a dear friend airbrushing us for our first Labryinth of Jareth Ball (2007) outing which led to her first Faerieworlds experience a week after that. This icon's a reminder of some of the fun and magic we've shared and created and experienced together there (and elsewhere) over the years. Even now, whenever I'm in SoCal I tend to end up at the Huntington, often w/her, for tea and wanderings and garden enjoyment.

4. mfnp - Ah, Mutants for Nuclear Power. This was an in-joke w/[livejournal.com profile] ebony_sphynx. That's all I can remember 'bout it.

5. with lisa - [livejournal.com profile] dritikol took this lovely shot of me 'n' [livejournal.com profile] nakeygirl at Renaissance Faire (not sure whether it's Southern or Crossroads or Big Bear) several years back, when we were both criers (leading parades and spinning madly whilst ringing bells, stopping now and again to cry out current news items - all the news that's fit to shout out about). I've gone to RenFaire every year for many Many years now and it's always a ton of fun.

6. kinky boots - Well, in this case methinks the picture tells its own story, don't you agree? ;-) It's also the name of and reminiscent of a FAB flick...

I keep reading Bunny O'Clock. Which is hilarious in its own right, but I think I like yours better ^_^

You only have six (6) total, and I cannot see the final one (Wicked Witch), so I'm interested in hearing 'bout each/all of 'em.

Oh :-) I was mostly just commenting 'cause I was amused, but will write a post when I get a chance :-)

Ah, no worries - no need to talk 'bout 'em unless you feel like it...although I AM interested in the story behind THIS icon (your default these days).

[identity profile] fae-raven.livejournal.com 2009-08-08 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
ABSOLUTELY you may appropriate my kitty for your own use! ;)

Lets see. . . .

I appropriated "Big Girl Panties" from [livejournal.com profile] shimmerdance, it came around at just the right time. I was beginning to face and deal with my gender confusion issues and embrace my femininity, at the same time there was much relationship stuff, much legal stuff, etc. and it truly was a time for me to just deal with everything. The panties are OH so appropriate!

Black Knights! is, or was, the "nickname" of the 5th Cavalry Regiment, where I served in Germany and the Balkan region from 1994 to 1997. This logo is their unit crest. It was where I learned that someone who's "just a supply sergeant" can lead combat night patrols, man the gunner's station on a Bradley fighting vehicle, etc. It was in this unit that I guess I truly got my "trial by fire," learned to lead soldiers, and learned what I was capable of (at times this was much to my own terror) and this time completely changed me. I look back with some pride, this was truly a turning point. . .after this, the army never looked or felt the same to me, and I guess this unit is the standard I still judge the army by today. Somewhat regretfully, perhaps, I am now trying to "undo" some of what occured in my psyche at that time, but I will always be a Black Knight.

"Clay Beret" is a photo that [livejournal.com profile] magickalmom took of me about the week I retired from the Army. The Army had gone to a new uniform, that nasty, sage-greenish digital camoflage "ACU." I hated it, and refused to wear it my last three months in uniform. I wanted my time in service to be remembered in the old woodland camoflage. This is one of the few photos in existence of me that I actually like.

"Colleen" was also taken by [livejournal.com profile] magickalmom, at Yule time last year while my daughter, [livejournal.com profile] violatorfrancis was visiting from Idaho. The occasion was the night of the Gender Alliance of South Sound's "Solstice Soiree" which was postponed due to that horrible snowstorm we had. I dressed anyway. The evening was a lot of up and down emotion and stuff, I'll always remember my daugher doing my makeup and being okay with that part of me.

Both Drama Llama icons came about in the springtime of 2008, when there was MUCH drama in our family, our relationships, our poly-pagan community as a whole, and a lot of personal drama in my life. There was a discussion going on, I believe, between [livejournal.com profile] magickamom and some other friends, and the term for drama which just never goes away was named "undead" and because all of us hate drama but love fucking, I guess that one just stuck..... thankfully, I don't need to use these two icons as much as I used to! :)

Thanks, that was fun and pause for reflection. I'll have to pick six of yours now!
