Using DW for Gym & WW Status Updates
Okay, this'll likely get me posting here regularly, although the inability to post while traveling (when I have only cell phone and not my laptop) will interfere some w/this plan. In short, I've finally started taking action on getting into better shape and thereby regaining my stamina and energy. This two pronged-process involves paying attention to (and reducing) my daily food/drink intake and also to noting (and increasing) my weekly activity levels. I plan to post here about these processes, and hopefully will also post about other things in my life once I'm back in the DW fka LJ habit.
In order to work on the former, I've joined Weight Watchers. I like games, and rules, and have a good track-record of Jumping Through Hoops. I get 26 points/day plus 42 extra points each week, with up to 4 of daily pts rolloverable into bonus week points, but not past Monday, my weigh-in day. (Joined WW after eating a couple meals, so despite a fine low-point homemade dinner, I've already begun nibbing away at my weekly bonus pts ;-) Luckily, veggies, fruits, skinless chicken breasts, beans, and eggies are all FREE (no points), which makes all this far easier and less annoying.
So far I've added some of my fave meals to my app so they're easy to find/add to my Daily Food, as well as modified their Hearty Chili recipe so it matches what I cooked tonight. (Nice knowing that at least one thing I cook regularly is already pretty good (low point count). Not surprising, actually, as I developed it over a dozen years ago, when I did my only other diet. Lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks that time.) Now I've got two 3-point meals in the freezer for when I'm back from Going Coastal (Sunday AM-Thursday PM), as well as another 3-pt turkey-chili dinner tomorrow night.
The second part of this process involves getting more exercise on a regular basis. Various medical/health issues have kept me from doing this as much as I'd like. The current main one is trouble w/my right ankle (tendon issue). Hopefully reducing my overall weight will help this. Anyway, I joined LA Fitness today, and participated in a 9am Aqua Fit class after swimming a few laps to warm up. (I've already talked to my doc & PT about this, so know how to avoid stuff that'd hurt my ankle.) It felt SO GOOD!
Several friends of mine do this already (9am Aqua Fit on M, W, and F), which increases my chances of keeping at it. Once Thanksgiving's over, I'll get a full gym tour and assessment with a personal trainer and figure out what more I can do safely (machines, &c.)
Leaving town Sunday AM for a Fall Colors train ride (hopefully 2 - 2 hour rides) out of Wheeler, OR. It runs along the Nehalem Bay some, then up the Nehalem River. Should be marvelous! https://oregoncoastscenic.org/schedule/
It's been a fine Fall, full of lovely colors and fallen leaves. We had a full weekplus of warm weather, which was delightful. Now the temps have fallen into the 30s at night with highs in the 50s. I do so love living in a city and state with real seasons, even though they're SeasonsLite compared to much of the rest of the country ;-) Here's a link to photos of my recent last-minute jaunt up the Columbia Gorge: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8146112@N06/albums/72157700087365132
