That's awesome. What was Berkeley actually like, as a place to live in the 60s and 70s?

Pretty darned marvelous. And a fair amount like PDX now, actually. (One of the reasons my 'rents like visiting me here :-) 'Twas more political on a nat'l level there then though, while here now the political activism tends to be more local.

Okay! I kinda got the impression that it was more small town at the time - that it was The College Town, a little more independent and distanced than the part of the Bay Area where there's a major school.
