I Want My Energy Back
I'm so freakin' tired of being so freakin' tired. I want my energy and enthusiasm back, gorammit (sp). This last weekend was nice, but nearly every day I hit a wall at some point and was DONE moving/thinking/deciding/doing anything. Part of it was heat & dehydration, part of it was just feeling wacked at some point in the afternoon/evening. I wanna be able to drive from Portland up to Seattle(ish), help friends move, then go dancing at the Grind 'til closing, and drive back the next day w/out feeling as wiped as I felt Monday after a day at the mall, like I used to be able to do.
Yeah, on Monday, after dropping off the other car for repair (on Sunday we'd done a last minute toss everything from one car into the next when the horrid screeching noises and inability to turn the steering wheel easily decided us NOT to take that one to Faire), we (AJ,
delerium3, LJ-less K) spent a good chunk o' the day at the mall in Santa Anita, w/me acting as chauffeur.
The day began well enough. DenBob joined us and we all enjoyed How To Train Your Dragon (3-D). He then (wisely) left us to our own devices. We fortified ourselves against the upcoming challenge at the food court, supplemented by DB's homemade shortbread (YUMBO). Then we quested for biz suits for AJ's great-niece K who starts her prof'l career next month, after her college graduation, working as a paralegal in D.C.
Now I've done this sorta thing before, but it's been a long time. I even had a good idea/memory of where at Nordies to look for such garb and which other stores might work for us. This whole process took me back to when I'd zoom up to Santa Barbara to be there when the doors opened for annual Nordstrom sales, to when my wardrobe contained suits and jackets and skirts and pumps, to when my life was considerably different from what 'tis now. *shudder* I do NOT miss it. Not for one minute.
Anyway, long extremely frustrating story short, we had no luck at so many places. Poor selection combined w/major failure of suit cuts (some women who're size 2 have curves, which suit-makers apparently do NOT consider possible or take into account at all) to produce much frustration and exhaustion. Finally we found a good black suit, at the very last place we went, for a decent price. Thank goodness!
Actually, it wasn't all bad. Williams Sonoma rocked. I scored a tin of my fave tea (Mariage Frères' Marco Polo), as did K (who was turned onto it by her host mom when she spent a semester living in France), while
delerium3 procured a sweet sharp set o' knives for the Petting Zoo kitchen w/free shipping and no tax b'c of OR delivery address.
When we got back home chez AJ after battling rush hour traffic (which luckily wasn't nearly as bad as it could've been), I crashed hard, crawling in bed around 6pm and staying there 'til sometime after 6am the following day (yesterday).

There're more stories to relate from this past weekend, but I'm running outta steam. It was SO nice seeing folks at Faire on Saturday (even though cut short b'c of my crashing). Sunday's Mom's Day outing at t'other Faire was also really nice: mellow, cool, way smaller & massively uncrowded. Along w/the fambily (AJ and all 3 of her kids, moi, K, -in-laws, and g-daughter), we enjoyed the pleasure of the good company of
ebony_sphynx and
dritikol. This Faire had more re-enactors, more blacksmiths and weavers and companies of folks living the life. It felt less like an outdoor mall in costume. We had some excitement after a good joust when a horse mistook
delerium3's straw hat for a treat. Much laughter ensued.
Yesterday's plane flight was quite nice. Our initial flight was delayed by nearly an hour, so
delerium3 and I ate lunch at LAX, read our books, then had a very short layover in OAK. The final leg from OAK-PDX zoomed by as we chatted away w/the nice woman sitting next to us. She had a great attitude and lots of stories to share. Several times E glanced over at me w/this "WTF? THIS IS GREAT!" look on her face.
L picked us up from PDX yesterday evening. After shuttling E home to the Petting Zoo, I had dinner w/L, then drove L back to PDX to pick up a rental car for her upcoming drive to the Bay Area. After a nice chat w/
lightfoote, I hit the hay.
All in all, I'm really glad to be home again.
